Homelessness is a growing crisis across Canada, with over 235,000 people experiencing homelessness each year. At LES AMIS SOLIDAIRES, we believe that access to nutritious food is a basic human right. Our mobile food sharing program brings hot, healthy meals directly to those who need them most.
Every Tuesday evening, our bright blue food truck pulls up to Parc Jacques-Cartier in downtown Gatineau. Within minutes, a line forms – not just of people seeking a meal, but of individuals with stories, dreams, and dignity. Among them is Robert, a 58-year-old former construction worker who lost his housing after a workplace injury.
"It's not just about the food – though the meals are incredible. It's about being seen as a person, not just a problem. The volunteers remember my name, ask about my day. That means everything."
Robert's story reflects the reality that homelessness can happen to anyone. Our program serves people from all walks of life: veterans, families, youth aging out of care, and individuals facing mental health challenges.
